Audio: Battles - White Electric (Shabazz Palaces Remix)

Battles are, without any pretence or hyperbole, one of only a handfull of current actual bands that are making new, pioneering music. Always on point with their remixes, from 2007’s Four Tet and The Field reworkings of live favourite Tonto, to this superb effort by one of our favourite artists of last year, Shabazz Palaces.

Taken from the 4 part Dross Glop remix project, which also features edits and reworkings from Kode9, The AlchemistGui Boratto and more, available via Warp Records on February 20th, here.

Two of the best things to come out of 2011 (SBTRKT & Shabazz Palaces) combine with Drumma Boy for this variant of the original that’s still filling dance floors worldwide.

SP’s latest album is streaming in it’s entirety, here. It might just be the best album you’ve heard in 2011.

Shabazz Palaces - Live At KEXP’s Hood To Hood

Following on from yesterday’s SP track, here’s a full live performance for streaming above and download, here (mediafire). Shabazz Palaces are really, really exciting me at the moment.

Shabazz Palaces - Swerve… The reeping of all that is worthwhile (Noir not withstanding)

Seattle’s Shabazz Palaces (Palaceer Lazaro) make avant-garde hip hop that was unknown to me until Pitchfork mentioned them in their ‘Best New Tracks’ section the other day. And I’m glad they did. At times minimalistic, instrumentally, it still manages to stay the right side of pretentious. This is really interesting stuff.

From the album ‘Black Up’ due June 28, from Sub Pop.
